These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Homies mobile application ("App") operated by Shai Sinai ("we," "us," or "our"). By creating an account or using the App you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Homies (16 in the European Economic Area). By using the App you represent that you meet this requirement. If you are under 18, you represent that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.
2. Your Account
You register using your email address via a passwordless one-time code (OTP), or alternatively via Sign in with Apple. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your email account, as it controls access to Homies. You must notify us immediately at tryhomiesapp@gmail.com if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
You may not create accounts on behalf of others, create multiple accounts to circumvent restrictions, or transfer your account to another person.
3. The Service
Homies is a household management tool that helps groups of people living together:
- Coordinate and rotate cleaning chores
- Track shared expenses and settle debts
- See who is currently home via an optional geofencing feature
- Receive push notifications about household activity
The App is provided on a best-effort basis. We may update, modify, or discontinue features at any time. During our closed beta period, features and availability may change frequently.
4. Household Data & User Content
4.1 Your Content
You retain ownership of content you create in the App (expense records, chore names, etc.). By submitting content you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store and display it to your household members for the purpose of operating the service.
4.2 Shared Household Access
All members of a household can view the household's expenses, chores, and presence data. If you leave a household, your historical contributions (past expenses, cleaning history) remain visible to remaining members as part of the shared record. You are responsible for what you add to a shared household.
4.3 Accuracy
You are responsible for the accuracy of expense amounts, descriptions, and other information you enter. We are not responsible for financial disputes between household members arising from data entered in the App.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law
- Harass, abuse, or harm other users
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' data or our infrastructure
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or otherwise attempt to extract the source code of the App
- Use the App to transmit malware, spam, or other harmful content
- Circumvent or interfere with security features, including row-level access controls
- Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access the App or its API without our permission
6. Location & Geofencing
The geofencing feature is optional and requires you to explicitly enable it and grant background location permission on your device. By enabling geofencing you consent to the App monitoring your device location in the background to detect proximity to your household's home location. Your presence state (home/away) is shared with your household members. You can disable geofencing at any time in Settings.
7. Push Notifications
With your permission, we send push notifications about household activity (new expenses, chore turns, presence changes). You can manage notification preferences per category in Settings or through your device's system settings. We use Expo's push notification infrastructure to deliver notifications; see our Privacy Policy for details.
8. Intellectual Property
The Homies name, logo, and all App code, design, and content (excluding your user-generated content) are our intellectual property. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works without our express written consent.
9. Disclaimers
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS.
We are not a financial service. The expense-tracking features are tools to help you and your housemates keep records; they do not constitute financial advice, and we are not liable for disputes or losses arising from their use.
10. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL WE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR LOSS OF GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE APP.
Our total aggregate liability to you for any claims arising under these Terms shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) USD $50.
11. Termination
You may stop using the App at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, with or without notice.
Upon termination, your access to household data will be revoked. Sections 4, 8, 9, 10, and 12 survive termination.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Israel, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the competent courts of Tel Aviv, Israel, unless applicable consumer-protection law in your jurisdiction requires otherwise.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via a push notification or in-app notice and will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the App after the effective date of the updated Terms constitutes acceptance.
